10+ years of acne experience & the MYSK approach

MYSK /mɪsk/
A name e from a skin positivity journey, inspired by @myskinisgettingbetter and my story.

I struggled with acne for over 10 years – and it was during this most difficult phase that @myskinisgettingbetter was born, as a place for support, self-acceptance, and honest insights into skin that isn't "easy." The turning point came with dermatologically supervised Roaccutane therapy – and especially with the skin barrier-friendly skincare that followed , which made my skin calmer and more resilient in the long run. From this experience, MYSK was born: a curated shop focusing on routine rather than trends – clean, effective, and well-tolerated formulas that soothe and strengthen the skin.

My skin journey: 10+ years of acne

How it all began

My acne was with me for over 10 years – sometimes subtle, sometimes more severe, but rarely truly "quiet." It started with occasional blemishes, later developing into recurring breakouts, especially during periods of stress, hormonal changes, or when I changed my routine too much (or too quickly). The hardest part wasn't just the appearance of my skin, but the feeling of constantly having to do something – and yet my skin still reacted.

What acne has done to my everyday life (short & honest)

For a long time, acne was not just a skin issue, but an everyday issue: decisions about make-up, spontaneous plans, constantly new “solutions” – and always the feeling of losing control as soon as the skin becomes unbalanced again.

What I tried (and what I would do differently today)

Treatments, nutrition & routines

During these years I tried an incredible number of things: different treatments, adjustments to my diet, minimalist routines and very complex routines, active ingredients, “clean” skincare, dermocosmetics – some things helped in the short term, but rarely brought long-term stability.

Why I started documenting everything

That's precisely why I began to consciously document my journey and understand how skin really works – step by step, out of genuine necessity, not trends.

The most common mistakes in acne care (from my experience)

  • Changing too much at once (changing products/routines too quickly)

  • Too many active ingredients at once

  • Overly aggressive cleansing or overly frequent exfoliation

  • Too little focus on skin barrier and tolerability

@myskinisgettingbetter – a diary that changed everything

This is how my Instagram profile @myskinisgettingbetter came about: as a diary of progress, setbacks, mistakes – and the things that really made a difference.

Experience from tests & collaboration

Over the years, I have worked with many international skincare brands, tested formulations, and gained a lot of experience in what acne-prone and sensitive skin can actually tolerate – and what is just well marketed.

The turning point: Roaccutane – and the aftercare

The turning point finally came with dermatologically supervised treatment with Roaccutane . But the biggest long-term difference for me came from the aftercare: a focus on the skin barrier , tolerability, and a routine that soothes the skin instead of overwhelming it.

What was crucial after that

Even today, my skin isn't perfect every day – but I know how to react, how to simplify my routine, and which formulas have really proven effective.

The MYSK approach: Less, but better

From this combination – personal experience, consistent testing and a clear routine approach – MYSK was created: a place where I consciously choose less, but better , so that skin can calm down and remain balanced in the long term.

About me: Background & why I founded MYSK

Alongside my skincare journey, I completed a Master's degree in International Management – and consciously chose to combine this knowledge with my passion for skincare . For years, while studying, I compared formulations, tested products, and documented how my skin reacted – sharing my experiences transparently via @myskinisgettingbetter .

From this combination of personal acne experience , consistent testing and entrepreneurial drive, MYSK was born: a curated space for people seeking less irritation and more clarity in their routine – with carefully selected formulas that soothe, are well tolerated and strengthen the skin barrier .

It's great that you're here – I look forward to building MYSK together with you: step by step, with more peace in skincare and more confidence in your own skin.

Love,
Eva
